About FaithWalk

What is the purpose of FaithWalk?

FaithWalk is an adult weekend that aims to concentrate closely on the person of Jesus Christ and his teachings. While FaithWalk explores the basic Christian beliefs, it is best described as a spiritual encounter with Christ. Many who have attended the weekend have experienced a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Christ as they sense his love in a dynamic way.

What happens on a FaithWalk weekend?

The FaithWalk team leading the weekend is composed of former attendees of a FaithWalk or similar weekend like Discipleship Walk, Great Banquet, Tres Dias, Cursillo or Walk to Emmaus…, who have volunteered their time for months of preparation by working and praying together as a unit.

FaithWalk presents the basics of the Christian life and the meaning of living the Christian ideal and its application in our daily lives.

FaithWalk is centered around lay and pastor talks. Table groups discuss each talk. Discourse that develops from these discussions makes Christ’s teachings come alive.

The basic atmosphere of FaithWalk is one of love, joy, Christian fellowship, singing, laughing, and worship. FaithWalk makes future Christian experiences more fruitful because of the zestful seasoning it brings to all Christian living.

FaithWalk can be made only once in a lifetime. Therefore, it is not a substitute for a retreat, nor does it have the individual solitude of a retreat.

Who should attend a FaithWalk weekend?

There are weekends for men and women. If you are married, the husband is encouraged to attend first. Wives usually attend a week or two later. It is helpful if each attendee has been encouraged by someone who has previously attended a FaithWalk or similar weekend.

FaithWalk is designed for those who desire to strengthen their faith and be brought closer to Christ. It is for all Christian denominations and is best described as a planned Weekend to encourage continued spiritual growth in your personal relationship with Christ. A large number of those who have attended the FaithWalk Weekend have experienced a strengthening of their walk. They encounter His love in a dynamic way and are encouraged to help one another live and grow in the Christian life and to become more active in the local church God has placed them.

What is the history of FaithWalk?

FaithWalk itself began in 2001, when the Lord began to draw people from many different similar weekends to Bartlett, Tennessee. As they began to pray together, the Lord began to show them the need for a weekend that would impact individuals and send them back to their local churches to serve. Thus, the dream of FaithWalk began. The purpose from the beginning would be “to strengthen and develop leaders in all Christian churches”.

But three seemingly insurmountable challenges would surface. First, they would need at least 35 people who had gone through a weekend to serve as the Weekend Team. Second, they would need a little over nine thousand dollars to purchase the initial supplies. Third, they would need another community to come along side them and help create a FaithWalk Manual which would serve to define and guide the Weekend activities. Within a year, the Lord miraculously provided all three in ways that were so unusual that it could have only been accomplished by a sovereign God! Discipleship Walk of Memphis, TN, came along side. Half of the FaithWalks #1 and #2 Teams (Oct 2003) were made up of Discipleship Walk members. There were 16 male and 16 female Believers who attended the first and second FaithWalks, respectively. And donations were received which allowed for the purchase of Weekend supplies. The birth of FaithWalk had taken place and the spirit of God had moved in a powerful, strong way – and beyond their wildest dreams!!!

Today, the FaithWalk Team leading the Weekend is composed of members from over 100 churches, 17 different states and 3 different countries. We have only just begun and we believe we can play a role in strengthening the body of Christ around the world. Those who have volunteered their time by serving on a FaithWalk team have prepared by working, training, and praying together as a unit. The FaithWalk Weekend begins on a Thursday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon. The Weekend is centered around lay persons’ and pastors’ talks. Table groups discuss each talk, where the discourse that develops from these discussions makes Christ’s teachings come alive. There are also chapel services designed to give the Believer a chance to experience forgiveness, and other events that show the Believer tangible evidence of God’s love. The basic atmosphere of FaithWalk is one of Christian love, joy, introspect, fellowship, singing, laughter, and worship.

FaithWalk is not intended to be a ‘mountaintop experience’, but a life-changing encounter with God that will send the Believer back to his family, friends, work, and church to be a better disciple of Christ. Doing so, FaithWalk takes the Believer from Believer to Disciple to Disciple Maker.

What is the fourth day?

One’s life after a FaithWalk weekend is called the Fourth Day. Following FaithWalk, an individual may desire to continue in the strengthening of his or her spiritual life and become a more active disciple of Christ in the world and in the church. Pursuing a relationship with Christ is important. Continued contact with FaithWalk community members on a regular basis will enhance this growth. Reunions of smaller groups are also encouraged so that the participants may help one another in living the Christian life.
