What is the purpose of CrossRoads?
CrossRoads is an youth weekend that aims to concentrate closely on the person of Jesus Christ and his teachings. While CrossRoads explores the basic Christian beliefs, it is best described as a spiritual encounter with Christ. Many who have attended the Weekend have experienced a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Christ as they sense his love in a dynamic way.
CrossRoads Mid-South is the youth community of FaithWalk Community of the Mid-South, serving the Bartlett, TN, Memphis, TN, and surrounding areas.
CrossRoads Mid-South is a community of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are a lay-led movement with active pastor(s) participation and actively seek the participation of people of all Christian denominations in our area.
We are a part of a large group of 4th day communities spreading knowledge of God’s love and redemption throughout the United States and overseas.
We actively seek a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by participating in a weekend of living in Christian fellowship involving a combination of carefully developed activities and teachings which are meant to lead to a fuller personal commitment to Christ. The main teaching of CrossRoads is God’s unequaled love for each of us through His grace.
The FaithWalk movement endeavors to bring Christians to a closer, more personal walk with the Lord, Jesus Christ, and to encourage them to Christian leadership and action in their environments.
What happens on a CrossRoads Weekend?
CrossRoads begins on a Friday evening and ends the following Monday afternoon.
The CrossRoads team leading the Weekend is composed of former attendees of a CrossRoads or similar Weekend like Vida Nueva, Tres Dias, Awakening, Great Banquet, Discipleship Walk, Chrysalis or Walk to Emmaus…, who have volunteered their time for months of preparation by working and praying together as a unit.
CrossRoads presents the basics of the Christian life and the meaning of living the Christian ideal and its application in our daily lives.
CrossRoads is centered around lay and pastor talks. Table groups discuss each talk. Discourse that develops from these discussions makes Christ’s teachings come alive.
The basic atmosphere of CrossRoads is one of love, joy, Christian fellowship, singing, laughing, and worship. CrossRoads makes future Christian experiences more fruitful because of the zestful seasoning it brings to all Christian living.
CrossRoads can be made only once in a lifetime. Therefore, it is not a substitute for a retreat, nor does it have the individual solitude of a retreat.
Who should attend a CrossRoads Weekend?
Just as Christ meets you at your point of need, so CrossRoads is designed for those who desire to be strengthened in their faith and to be brought closer to Christ in their discipleship. CrossRoads is for Christians of all denominations. The Weekend is not necessarily for new believers, but for those who understand God’s grace. It is especially gratifying for those who are in leadership within the church.
The Weekends are for male and female youth. It is helpful if each attendee has been encouraged by someone who has previously attended a CrossRoads or similar Weekend.
What is the history of CrossRoads?
CrossRoads is designed for those who desire to strengthen their faith and be brought closer to Christ. It is for all Christian denominations and is best described as a planned weekend to encourage continued spiritual growth in your personal relationship with Christ. A large number of those who have attended the CrossRoads Weekend have experienced a strengthening of their walk. They encounter His love in a dynamic way and are encouraged to help one another live and grow in the Christian life and to become more active in the local church God has placed them.
CrossRoads itself began in 2008, when the Lord began expanding the ministry of the FaithWalk Community of the Midsouth and FaithWalk International. As they began to pray together, the Lord began to show them the need for a weekend that would impact youth and send them back to their local churches to serve. Thus, the dream of CrossRoads began. The purpose from the beginning would be “to strengthen and develop leaders in all Christian churches”.
Today, the CrossRoads Team leading the Weekend is composed of members from over 100 churches, 17 different states and 3 different countries. We have only just begun and we believe we can play a role in strengthening the body of Christ around the world. Those who have volunteered their time by serving on a CrossRoads team have prepared by working, training, and praying together as a unit. The CrossRoads Weekend begins on a Friday evening and ends on Monday afternoon. The Weekend is centered around lay persons’ and pastors’ talks. Table groups discuss each talk, where the discourse that develops from these discussions makes Christ’s teachings come alive. There are also chapel services designed to give the Believer a chance to experience forgiveness, and other events that show the Believer tangible evidence of God’s love. The basic atmosphere of CrossRoads is one of Christian love, joy, introspect, fellowship, singing, laughter, and worship.
CrossRoads is not intended to be a ‘mountaintop experience’, but a life-changing encounter with God that will send the Believer back to his family, friends, work, and church to be a better disciple of Christ. Doing so, CrossRoads takes the Believer from Believer to Disciple to Disciple Maker.
What is the fourth day?
One’s life after a CrossRoads Weekend is called the Fourth Day. Following CrossRoads, an individual may desire to continue in the strengthening of his or her spiritual life and become a more active disciple of Christ in the world and in the church. Pursuing a relationship with Christ is important. Continued contact with CrossRoads community members on a regular basis will enhance this growth. Reunions of smaller groups are also encouraged so that the participants may help one another in living the Christian life.
